In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and implementing technical solutions to optimize laboratory and pilot-scale processes. You will coordinate with vendors and internal teams to develop, test, and deliver engineering projects, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Your work will involve hands-on prototyping, project management, and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify suitable technical solutions based on process challenges or laboratory setup issues, including optimization or adaptation of existing systems for new requirements
  • Develop detailed technical requirements and specifications, such as user requirement sheets (URS), for proposed solutions
  • Source and evaluate potential vendors, suppliers, and partners, collaborating on technical proposals
  • Drive rapid prototyping activities, including 3D printing, when applicable
  • Prepare cost estimates, project timelines, and oversee delivery, installation, and validation activities (FAT/SAT)
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, schematics, layouts, calculations, and datasheets
  • Manage engineering projects by coordinating with vendors and ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and environmental standards (e.g., ATEX)
  • Conduct factory acceptance tests, site commissioning, and process optimization activities
  • Address project deviations and deficiencies, coordinating corrections with suppliers and partners
  • Compile and review technical documentation, including supplier documentation and local compliance files, for handover
  • Oversee the final handover of the project to operations teams, ensuring all deliverables meet quality standards

Candidate Profile

  • Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in pharmaceuticals, food, or cosmetics
  • Proven background in processing pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetic products
  • Experience with manufacturing suspension systems and protein-containing products preferred
  • Knowledge of aseptic and bioburden-controlled processes desirable
  • Familiarity with ATEX and other safety regulations for handling organic solvents in lab or pilot environments
  • Understanding of scale-up and scale-out methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with CAD software and rapid prototyping tools such as 3D printing
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and vendors, ideally in a regulated environment
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and project management skills
  • Practical mindset with a creative approach to developing technical solutions
  • Languages: Fluent in English, proficiency in German is a plus
