In this role, the Cost Engineer will take charge of overseeing and coordinating all cost control activities and cost reporting for the project. This position is essential for ensuring that financial resources are effectively managed and that project budgets are adhered to. The Cost Engineer will collaborate closely with various teams to provide accurate financial insights and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares cost control reports for the project, which include, but are not limited to, budgets, commitments, Value of Work Done, forecasting, Capex expenditure, contingency management, variance analysis reporting, and monthly project reporting
  • Creates and maintains personnel staffing plans, which involve collecting actuals from SAP and collaborating with Project Management to gather information for updating future personnel requirements; subsequently interprets data and produces presentation materials to effectively showcase status, changes, projections, etc.
  • Provides input to support project changes and ensures that costs are accurately captured in cost reports. Fosters a culture of ‘cost awareness and communication’ within the team to ensure clarity and accuracy of data, promoting a ‘no surprises’ mindset
  • Ensures the correct Cost Breakdown Structure coding is applied to all requisitions, purchase orders, and invoices
  • Ensures that budget holders are fully informed about their budgets and the cost process through ongoing communication and support as needed
  • Analyzes data to understand variances from the plan and the impact of actual performance on total installed costs
  • Participates in delivery team and functional team meetings and workshops as required
  • Responds to ad hoc requests for data, data analysis, and presentation materials
  • Provides support to the project controls functional group as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Candidate Profile

  • Education: A degree or advanced degree from an accredited college or university is required. A background in Engineering, Science, Quantity Surveying, or Business Management is preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Over 10 years of experience as a cost engineer for large pharmaceutical projects 
  • Ability to interpret cost data consistently and efficiently, and to communicate relevant information to senior management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with SAP, SAP Ariba, and Oracle Primavera Unifier is desirable
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical projects involving Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning type contracts
    Experience working in an international environment
  • Strong analytical capabilities to analyze complex and large data sets, draw conclusions, and support decision-making
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to shifting priorities and demands, and capable of effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and influencing abilities
  • Languages: Fluent in English, German is a plus
